Senior Accountant - Costing & Financial Analysis

About the role

A growing professional services organisation in Damascus is looking for a proactive, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting operations, lead costing and financial analysis and turn financial data into clear insights for management. The position is full-time and on-site.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger accounts; reconcile bank, vendor, client and intercompany balances.
• Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual closing process and prepare financial statements and management reports.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards (IFRS), tax regulations and internal controls, and coordinate with external auditors.
• Build and maintain the costing system, including cost centres, cost allocation methods and unit or project costing.
• Track actual costs against budgets and standards, analyse profitability and margins by project, service line and client, and support pricing and quotations.
• Review overheads and operating expenses, recommend cost-saving measures, and prepare budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections.
• Develop KPI dashboards and reports understandable by non-finance managers, mentor junior accountants and improve accounting processes and ERP use.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA, CMA, ACCA or equivalent is a strong plus.
• 5+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
• Fluent in Arabic and English; able to manage multiple priorities and work on-site in Damascus.

Required skills

• Hands-on cost accounting, cost allocation and profitability analysis.
• Budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of IFRS, local tax regulations and internal control frameworks.
• Accounting software and ERP systems, and advanced Excel (pivot tables, financial modelling, lookups).
